    Rise in the price of wheat for the Bakery in the Street of the Fishmarket in the city of Lima 1812-1821

    This article analyzes the information found in the newly discovered account book in the Lima National Archives on bulk wheat prices paid by a centrally located bakery for the nine year period 1812 to June 1821. The conclusion is that the price of wheat per bushel paid by this Lima bakery rose more than eleven hundred percent between 1812 and 1821 and that the profits shown after the bakery paid these increased wheat costs would indicate a rise in the price of bread to cover the increased cost of the wheat.     Vertical pairing of identical particles suspended in the plasma sheath

    It is shown experimentally that vertical pairing of two identical microspheres suspended in the sheath of a radio-frequency (rf) discharge at low gas pressures (a few Pa), appears at a well defined instability threshold of the rf power. The transition is reversible, but with significant hysteresis on the second stage. A simple model, which uses measured microsphere resonance frequencies and takes into account besides Coulomb interaction between negatively charged microspheres also their interaction with positive ion wake charges, seems to explain the instability threshold quite well.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures. to appear in Phys.     If new phenomena beyond the Standard Model will be discovered at the LHC, the properties of the new particles could be determined with data from the High-Luminosity LHC and from a future linear collider like the ILC. We discuss the possible interplay between measurements at the two accelerators in a concrete example, namely a full SUSY model which features a small stau_1-LSP mass difference. Various channels have been studied using the Snowmass 2013 combined LHC detector implementation in the Delphes simulation package, as well as simulations of the ILD detector concept from the Technical Design Report. We investigate both the LHC and ILC capabilities for discovery, separation and identification of various parts of the spectrum. While some parts would be discovered at the LHC, there is substantial room for further discoveries at the ILC. We finally highlight examples where the precise knowledge about the lower part of the mass spectrum which could be acquired at the ILC would enable a more in-depth analysis of the LHC data with respect to the heavier states.Comment: 42 pages, 18 figures, 12 table

    Interaction between dust grains near a conducting wall

    The effect of the conducting electrode on the interaction of dust grains in a an ion flow is discussed.     A self-consistent, mean-field model of charge-carrier injection and unipolar transport in an organic semiconductor diode is developed utilizing the effective transport energy concept and taking into account a realistic density-of-states distribution as well as the presence of trap states in an organic material. The consequences resulting from the model are discussed exemplarily on the basis of an indium tin oxide/organic semiconductor/metallic conductor structure.     Stationary Velocity and Charge Distributions of Grains in Dusty Plasmas

    Within the kinetic approach velocity and charge distributions of grains in stationary dusty plasmas are calculated and the relations between the effective temperatures of such distributions and plasma parameters are established. It is found that the effective temperature which determines the velocity grain distribution could be anomalously large due to the action of accelerating ionic bombarding force. The possibility to apply the results obtained to the explanation of the increasing grain temperature in the course of the Coulomb-crystal melting by reduction of the gas pressure is discussed.     Larvae of Portunus acuminatus (Stimpson, 1871) from one female, collected by trawling at a depth of 12 m in the Gulf of Nicoya, Pacific Costa Rica, Central America (090°48.899’N, 084°40.498’W) were hatched in the laboratory. The morphology of zoea I is described and illustrated for the first time and compared with known zoeae of other portunid species belonging to the subfamily Portuninae. We present a combination of three features which allows zoea I larvae of P. acuminatus to be distinguished from other described larvae of the genus. Descriptions are based on dissected larvae analysed by SEM and light microscopy.Se describe el primer estadio larvario del cangrejo Portunus acuminatus. Las larvas se obtuvieron en el laboratorio a partir de una hembra ovígera capturada en el Golfo de Nicoya (090°48.899’N, 084°40.498’W), Pacífico de Costa Rica. La descripción se ha realizado con la ayuda del microscopio electrónico de barrido y el microscopio óptico. Los caracteres morfológicos son comparados con los de otras especies de la subfamilia Portuninae. Presentamos una combinación de tres caracteres que permiten distinguir la primera zoea de P. acuminatus de otras larvas del género
